Boating & Water Activities

With its calm, expansive waters, Buckhorn Lake is ideal for boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Whether you prefer a slow cruise to take in the scenery or a more active day on the water, the lake has plenty to offer. There is a public boat ramp for easy access, and visitors can rent boats or bring their own.

Fishing

Buckhorn Lake is a fishing paradise, known for its abundance of largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The lake’s structure and deep waters create a perfect habitat for anglers looking to reel in a big catch. Fishing from the shore, a boat, or the dock offers excellent opportunities year-round.

Buckhorn Lake offers over 1,230 acres of water at summer pool for anglers. There are many different species of fish to be caught at Buckhorn Lake, such as muskie, crappie, catfish, white bass and bluegill. From April through November, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife regularly stocks the stilling basin, just below the dam, with trout. Hiking & Wildlife Viewing

The area surrounding Buckhorn Lake is rich with trails that wind through the Daniel Boone National Forest and nearby state parks. These scenic trails provide stunning overlooks, waterfalls, and an up-close look at Kentucky’s diverse wildlife, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various bird species.

Swimming & Relaxation

During the warmer months, visitors can take advantage of designated swimming areas to cool off in the lake’s refreshing waters. The beach at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is a popular spot for families, offering picnic areas, shaded spots, and a laid-back atmosphere for sunbathing and swimming.

Hunting

Hunting is permitted in the Buckhorn Lake Wildlife Management Area as well as outside recreation and operations areas on the project. There is a large supply of rabbit, squirrel, turkey and deer to be hunted on the project. Non-commercial trapping, archery and black powder hunting are gaining popularity at the lake.
